The Joker Lap is the compulsory alternative route in a Rallycross race. Rather than automatically taking it on the first lap, treat its timing as a way to control traffic and track position.
When running at the front
Use the Joker Lap Delta Time as a reference. If you can build a lead large enough to cover the extra time of the Joker route, taking it later can allow you to rejoin ahead of your main rivals and keep clear track in front.
When caught in traffic
An earlier Joker Lap may help you leave a slower pack, find cleaner air and preserve race pace. Account for rivals who have already taken their Joker; the apparent position on track does not always reflect the effective race order.
