Difficulty and driving settings

By “Giok90” Giovanni Di Mare

Five AI difficulty levels are available: Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert and Legend. A controlled comparison of the practice goal at Norris County produced the following targets:

DifficultyPractice goalDifference from next harder level
Legend12.311 s—
Expert12.797 s+0.486 s
Hard13.334 s+0.537 s
Normal13.942 s+0.608 s
Easy14.763 s+0.821 s

The differences between consecutive levels are not constant. The Easy target is 2.452 seconds slower than Legend on this particular circuit. These figures measure the game’s practice objectives, not a universal percentage adjustment to AI speed. The qualifying bonus objective is also a separate target: on Expert at Norris County, the qualifying bonus screen displayed 12.754 seconds while the practice goal was 12.797 seconds.

Because an unmodified early-career car can struggle at higher settings, consider matching difficulty to both your equipment and the type of experience you want. Missing a practice target does not automatically mean you cannot finish competitively in the race.
