Foxhound is the highest rank in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and one of the hardest challenges in the game. You need to finish on Extreme in under five hours without being spotted, without killing anyone and almost without taking damage. This guide explains every requirement and how to meet it, plus the preparation run that makes it far easier.
Foxhound requirements
Complete the game on Extreme or European Extreme with:
- 5 hours or less
- 0 alerts
- 0 kills
- 0 continues
- 0 Life Medicine
- 5 life bars or less of damage
- 20 or fewer serious injuries
- No special items
Step 1: the preparation run
The easiest way is to do a first run to unlock the best gear, then go for Foxhound in New Game+ on Extreme.
- At the start, choose “I like MGS1” to get the DPM camo (double health recovery) and the Auscam camo (less damage taken). See what every “I like MGS” answer unlocks.
- Collect all the Ga-ko to unlock the AT-Camo, which multiplies the camo index of the uniform you wear. It is not a special item. See all Ga-ko locations.
- Tranquillize every boss to collect their camos (non-lethal boss guide). You will also start the next run with the Patriot, very useful in the first part of The Pain battle.
- You can play this run on Very Easy to collect everything faster, or on Extreme to learn the harder soldier layout.
Step 2: how to meet each requirement
Under 5 hours
Learn enemy positions in your first run and skip all briefings and radio calls. The survival menu does not pause the timer: to take a break, open it and put the PlayStation in standby. The time limit is generous even without collectibles.
No alerts
Always wear the best camo for the area together with the AT-Camo: Moss in grass (up to 95% camo index, and it restores stamina in daytime outdoor areas), Splitter or Squares in urban zones. Wear the Spirit camo, which makes your footsteps silent, when you take enemies from behind with CQC or the Cig Gas Spray. Full list in the camo and face paint guide.
No kills
Dogs don’t count. Wear the Desert Tiger camo so your suppressor never wears out. Careful at Dolinovodno during Operation Snake Eater: don’t tranquillize the guard while he’s on the bridge, he can fall and it counts as a kill. On the mountain, a guard attacked by vultures can also count as a kill.
No continues
Save manually and often. If you die or get spotted, take the Fake Death Pill to go back to the main menu quickly. After using it against The Fear, use Survival mode › Return to Main Menu instead.
No Life Medicine
Wear the Sneaking Suit in boss fights to take less damage, and the Moss camo outdoors to recover stamina. To restore health after a boss, save, go offline and move the console date a few weeks forward. Each stamina recovery radio frequency can also be used once.
Damage and injuries
About half a life bar of damage is unavoidable because it happens in the story, and story injuries don’t count toward the 20 serious injuries.
No special items
Special items are Stealth Camo, Infinity Face Paint and the EZ Gun. The AT-Camo and the Patriot are allowed.
What changes on Extreme
- Less food
- More soldiers in every area
- Less ammo capacity and availability
- Soldiers see you from further away
- Bosses deal more damage and need more hits
