Recommended alternatives within the starting classes
As you progress through Rally and Rallycross, you may eventually find that your starting car is no longer competitive enough. If you prefer to remain in the same vehicle class rather than switch to another class, the following alternatives are worth considering. Both cars are more competitive than their respective starting cars.
Rally — MINI Cooper S (H1 FWD): low weight, responsive handling and predictable behaviour make it a practical alternative to the Lancia Fulvia HF. Its LOW maintenance classification also helps control running costs.
Rallycross — Volkswagen Polo S1600 (RX Super 1600s): a strong alternative to the starting Opel Corsa Super 1600, with LOW maintenance costs and competitive performance in its class.
There is no need to replace either starting car at a specific championship level. Change when its performance no longer suits your objective and consider the cost of the replacement alongside its running expenses.
You can use the Car Price Guide in Chapter 15 to compare new-car purchase prices.
Maintenance classifications
The garage distinguishes FREE, LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH maintenance costs. These categories help compare the likely expense of keeping different cars in service.
